Description (i3 Series) :

    The i3™ series smoke detectors represent a significant advancement in conventional detection. The i3 family is founded on three principles: Installation Ease, Intelligence, and Instant Inspection.

Installation Ease

     The i3 line redefines installation ease with its plug-in design. This allows an installer to pre-wire the bases included with the heads. The large wire entry port and in-line terminals provide ample room for neatly routing the wiring inside the base. The base accommodates a variety of back box mounting methods as well as direct mounting with drywall anchors. To complete the installation, i3 heads plug-in to the base with a simple Stop-Drop ‘N Lock action.


      i3 detectors offer a number of intelligent features to simplify testing and maintenance. Drift compensation and smoothing algorithms are standard with the i3 line, to minimize nuisance alarms. When connected to the 2W-MOD2 loop test/maintenance module, or a panel equipped with the i3 protocol, 2-wire i3 detectors are capable of generating a remote maintenance signal when they are in need of cleaning. This signal is indicated via an LED located at the module and the panel. To read the sensitivity of i3 detectors, the SENS-RDR is a wireless device that displays the sensitivity in terms of percent per foot obscuration.

Instant Inspection

     The i3 series provides wide angle red and green LED indicators for instant inspection of the detector condition, indicating: normal standby, out-of-sensitivity, alarm, or freeze trouble conditions. When connected to the 2WMOD2 loop test/maintenance module or a panel with the i3 protocol, the EZ Walk loop test feature is available on 2-wire i3 detectors. This feature verifies the initiating loop wiring by providing LED status indication at each detector.

Engineering Specifications (i3 Series)

     Smoke detector shall be an i3 Series model listed to Underwriters Laboratories UL 268 for Fire Protection Signaling Systems. The detector shall be a photoelectric type (model 2W-B, 4W-B) or a combination photoelectric/ thermal (model 2WT-B, 4WT-B) with thermal sensor rated at 57.2°C. The detector shall include a mounting base for mounting to 3½-inch and 4-inch octagonal, single gang, and 4-inch square back boxes with a plaster ring, or direct mount to the ceiling using drywall anchors. Wiring connections shall be made by means of SEMS screws. The detector shall allow pre-wiring of the base and the head shall be a plug-in type. The detector shall have a nominal sensitivity of 2.5% per foot nominal as measured in the UL smoke box. The detector shall be capable of automatically adjusting its sensitivity by means of drift compensation and smoothing algorithms. The detector shall provide dual color LED indication which blinks to indicatepower up, normalstandby, outofsensitivity, alarm, and freeze trouble (model 2WT-B, 4WT-B) conditions. When used in conjunction with the 2W-MOD2 module, 2wire models shall include a maintenance signal to indicate the need for maintenance at the alarm control panel, and shall provide a loop testing capability to verify the circuit without testing each detector individually.

     The MIR-1400A ionization type smoke detector is specially designed to meet the stringent performance requirements of industrial and municipal fire detection/alarm systems. The design of the detector emphasizes ease of installation and field maintenance.

All MIR-1400A ionization smoke detectors contain a unique dual source, dual unipolar chamber detection design which will sense the presence of smoke particles produced by fast combustion as well as slow smouldering fires.      The MIR-1400A ionization detector is designed to be compatible with all Mircom Fire Alarm Control Panels. It is a low voltage detector and can be intermixed on the same detection circuits. It is recommended that no more than 30 detectors of any combination or type be used on any one (1) circuit. The detector is ULC listed and may be used where incipient products of combustion can be anticipated as a source, dependent on the particular environmental conditions. It is recommended that good engineering judgement is applied regarding location and spacing.

Architects/Engineer Specifications

The detector shall have a dual chamber ionization sensor of the dual unipolar type. The sensor shall havea nominal sensitivity as measured in a ULC smoke box.It shall be possible to perform a calibrated sensitivityand performance test on the detector without the needof generating smoke. The test method shall test all detector circuits.

The detector shall incorporate a solid state voltageregulator which can maintain detection sensitivity overan input voltage of 8.5-35 VDC. Standby current shall be no more that 100 microamps. Current limiting shallprotect the detector against power surges and noiseprotection circuitry shall protect the detector so it canbe wired without conduit, where codes allow.

The detector shall have a mounting bracket that allowsfor direct surface mounting or mounting to a 3 1/2” or4” octagon box. A visual indication of an alarm shall beprovided by a latching light emitting diode (LED) on thedetector which may be seen at ground level.

It shall flash every ten seconds indicating that power isapplied to the detector. The visible alarm signal shall becapable of remote LED annunciation.

A special test meter shall be available to check thesensitivity of the detector. Metering points for the testmeter shall be accessible on the exterior of the detector. The detector shall not alarm when exposed to windgusts up to 2500 feet per minute. The detector screenand cover assembly should be easily removable for fieldcleaning. Wire connections are made by clamping plateand screw. The detector shall be supplied by Mircom.

The MIR-1400A has been designed to seal the sensingchamber from back pressure air flow, dust, dirt, andinsects. The back of the detector is sealed and the chamber is protected by a fine mesh. (.20:/508 mm) screen. If cleaning is required, it is easy to remove thecover (with a tool) and obtain access to the screen andchamber to perform a thorough cleaning. Replacementscreens, part number RS14, are available.

Series 65 Photoelectric Smoke Detector Head

     The photoelectric detector incorporates a pulsing infra-red LED located in a chamber within the housing of the detector. The chamber is designed to exclude light from any external source. At an angle to the LED is a photo-diode which normally does not register the column of light emitted by the LED. In the event of smoke from a fire entering the chamber, the light pulse from the LED will be refracted into and registered by the photo-diode. If the photo-diode “sees” smoke on the two following pulses (alarm confirmation), the detector changes into the alarm state. A highly visible external clear LED flashes red when the detector is in operational standby and changes to steady red in alarm state. The clear LED allows for easy floor level detector type identification.



Series 65 Fixed and Rate-of-Rise Heat Detector Head

    The heat detector operates by using a matched pair of thermistors to sense heat. One thermistor is exposed to the ambient temperature, the other is sealed. In normal conditions the two thermistors register similar temperatures; but, on the development of a fire, the temperature recorded by the exposed thermistor will increase rapidly, resulting in an imbalance that causes the detector to change into the alarm state. Rate-of-rise detectors are designed to detect a fire as the temperature increases, but they also have a fixed upper limit at which the detector will go into alarm if the rate of temperature increase has been too slow to trigger the detector earlier. A highly visible external red LED flashes when the detector is in operational standby and changes to steady in alarm state.




Series 65 Ionization Smoke Detector Head

     The sensing part of the ionization detector consists of two chambers -an open outer chamber with a second semi-sealed reference chamber within. Mounted in the reference chamber is a low activity radioactive foil of Americium 241 which enables current to flow between the inner and outer chambers when the detector is powered up. As smoke enters the detector, it causes a reduction of the current flow in the outer chamber and, hence, an increase in voltage measured at the junction between the two chambers. The voltage increase is monitored by the electronic circuitry which triggers the detector into alarm state atapresetthreshold. AhighlyvisibleexternalredLEDflasheswhenthedetector is in operational standby and changes to steady in alarm state.



Series 65 Bases

     All Series 65 bases have a “one-way-only” fit. The detectors are polarity sensitive and the bases are easy to wire. All bases have an earth ground connection and accept the provided standard head locking screw. Series 65 relay bases are for use with control units having resetable 4-wire detector power supply and alarm initiating circuits. Where local codes allow, they may also be used in 4-wire circuits to provide volt-free control signals to auxiliary systems such as automatic door closers.


Series 65 E-Z Fit Base (45681-251APO)

      An ultra low profile 6 1/4” (150mm) mounting base for Series 65 smoke and heat detector heads which can be fitted to mounting boxes up to 4” (100mm) in size. The E-Z fit base offers a very high degree of protection against unauthorized removal of detectors. The hinged covers, which conceal the mounting screws, are locked into place by the detector, which in turn is locked into the base by the standard locking screw.



Series 65 Standard Relay Base (45681-255APO)

      For use with Series 65 wide operating voltage range of detector heads. This base provides one set of system interface contacts (dry form C) that change state when the detector signals alarm.

Series 65 Auxiliary Relay Base (45681-256APO)

      For use with Series 65 wide operating voltage range of detector heads. This base provides one set of system interface contacts (dry form C) while also providing one set of voltage-free, changeover contacts (dry form C) that change state when the detector signals alarm.

Series 65 EOL (end-of-line) Relay Bases (45681-258APO)

     For use with Series 65 wide operating voltage range of detector heads. These bases provide one set of system interface contacts (dry form C) and one set of voltage-free changeover contacts (dry form C) that change state when the detector signals alarm, as well as an integral EOL power relay.


    These products must be installed, tested and maintained in accordance with all applicable standards (NFPA, etc.), local/ regional/national codes and jurisdictional authorities/approvals.      The BEAM1224 is a 4-wire conventional projected beam smoke detector. It is uniquely suited for protecting open areas with high ceilings where other methods of smoke detection are difficult to install and maintain. It is to be used with UL/ULC Listed compatible control panels only.

Installation of the single-ended reflective design is much easier than the dual-ended projected beam detectors. Alignment is quickly accomplished via an optical sight and a 2-digit signal strength meter incorporated into the product.

Listed for operation from –30°C to 55°C, the BEAM1224 can be used in open area applications to provide early warning in environments where temperature extremes exceed the capability of other types of smoke detection.

The BEAM1224 consists of a transmitter/receiver unit and a reflector. When smoke enters the area between the unit and the reflector it causes a reduction in the signal and, when the smoke level reaches the predetermined threshold, an alarm is activated.

The BEAM1224 has four standard sensitivity selections along with two Acclimate settings. When either of the two Acclimate settings are selected the detector will automatically adjust its sensitivity using advanced software algorithms to select the optimum sensitivity for the specific environment.

The BEAM1224S is equipped with an integral sensitivity test feature that consists of a test filter attached to a servo motor inside the detector optics.

     Using the remote test station RTS451, the motor is activated and moves the filter in the pathway of the light beam, thereby testing detector sensitivity. Smoke Detector Spacing : On smooth ceilings, 30–60 feet between projected beams and not more than one-half that spacing between a projected beam and a sidewall. Other spacing may be used depending on ceiling height, airflow characteristics, and response requirements. See NFPA 72 and CAN/ ULC S524.






     The Innovair TM DH100LP is a 2-wire photoelectric air duct smoke detector capable of sensing smoke in air velocities from 100 to 4,000 feet per minute (0.5 to 20.32 m/sec). This Innovair features Low-Flow Technology enabling duct smoke detection throughout a broad range of airflow environments. Many difficult to solve HVAC applications occur in low airflow duct applications where reliable smoke detection is critical. Innovair with Low-Flow technology can detect smoke at air speed velocities of 100 feet per minute or greater, while continuing the same reliable performance to 4,000 feet per minute.

The Innovair family is designed for simplified installation and easy maintenance. The modular construction allows for easy cleaning and uncomplicated field replacement of the power and sensor boards.

WARNING: Duct smoke detectors have specific limitations. Architectural/Engineering Specifications

     The air duct smoke detector shall be a Model DH100LP Series Duct Smoke Detector. The detector housing shall be UL and ULC listed. The detector shall operate at air velocities of 100 feet per minute to 4,000 feet per minute. It shall be capable of local testing via magnetic switch or remote testing using the RTS451KEY Remote Test Station. The unit shall be reset by local reset button or RTS451KEY. The duct detector housing shall incorporate an airtight smoke chamber in compliance with UL and ULC. The housing shall be capable of mounting to either rectangular or round ducts without adapter brackets. An integral filter system shall be included to reduce dust and residue effects on detector and housing, thereby reducing maintenance and servicing. Sampling tubes shall either be telescoping or be easily installed after the housing is mounted to the duct by passing through the duct housing.
